Meet the Failcrew – George Hatch

Lllllllllllllllllllladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages! Made of Fail Productions is proud to present to you the NEW co-host of the maiden podcaaaaaaaaaast: GEORGE HATCH!!!

What is your role in Made of Fail Productions?

As the new co-host of Made of Fail, my job is to try to reign in Dayna’s more salacious verbiage (not easy in the slightest), keep the flow of the conversation on topic, and be the straight man to a lot of bad puns. A LOT. I also have a couple of ensemble roles in Star Trek: Galilea.

What fascinates you the most about your fandoms, or fandom as a whole?

How we can be so passionate, almost to the point of fanaticism or addiction. I should preface this by saying most geeks and nerds I’ve met have been well-adjusted human beings, able to live and operate in society. Even those who consider themselves socially awkward or shy can find a place to exist with scores of people who share the same passions (including the internet, and especially the Made of Fail community).

But then there are those who take their passions just a little too far. The Star Trek geeks who will start a fight because someone said Picard is better than Kirk. The Star Wars nerds who will scoff and laugh derisively if someone even suggests that Babylon 5 might be better than the Holy Trilogy. The guy who buys an anime blow-up doll, a pillow, and leaves the convention floor (swear to Cthulhu, actually happened at MAGFest).

These are the people who mainstream media will always find and present as the typical geek or nerd. And as much as we fight against that stereotype, we can’t deny they exist. So, we have to keep fighting and change the perception of us, little by little. We’re doing good so far, and we’ve come a long way from the “D&D = Satan worship” days, but there’s more to be done.

What is your proudest accomplishment or achievement?

Donating $500 to Emily’s Eyes, easily. A year later, and it still gives me a warm fuzzy. Plus, I got a cool podcast co-hosting gig out of it.

What do you do when you’re not online?

Work. Transport roommates to work. Cook dinner. Clean. Wait on Dayna hand and foot. Attempt to platinum several games on Karl & Dayna’s PS3 (currently working on Arkham City).

What is your dream job?

Professional wrestler.

…What?

What is your greatest pet peeve?

Automatically deciding you don’t like something without even trying it. I freely admit to being just as guilty as anyone else on this score, but it still irks me.

How can I be as awesome as you?

Stop trying, sir.
