When the crew of Moya starts experiences blackouts and lost time, they learn a rogue energy being is among their number and have to sort out which of them is possessed by it. They’re told this by another energy being, who’s in possession of Pilot.
Meanwhile, Scorpius is having wormhole troubles.

While Moya stops for repairs, the majority of the cast (sans Chiana and Rygel) head down to a planet to explore archaeological ruins. When Stark flips out and his energies mix with a tear in the time continuum, he zaps them all back to the past, where they find themselves in the middle of a historical standoff between Peacekeepers and the native populace, which was supposed to end in a peaceful ceasefire. Our heroes try to find a way back home while also struggling to settle a series of changes to the timeline they keep accidentally creating.

The first thing I noticed when I opened this book is that it’s a lot easier to read on my Kindle and type up this review at the same time. With the previous two books, I would always have to place a heavy object or something on it to keep it spread open, and turning pages with the awkwardly improvised paperweight was annoying at best.
Make no mistake, I don’t care about the damage to the books – I like my books like I like my men; broken at the spine – but part of what put me off writing these things was the hassle.

The crew is tries to find a suitable planet for Zhaan to recover on, but are distracted by an opening wormhole. A ship traveling through the wormhole collides with Moya, and the two ships, now tangled together, are trapped in the wormhole, traveling out of control. And Moya doesn’t seem to be taking well to her new surroundings…
