Promoting a friend’s new video series!

Reposted from the Made of Fail Behind-The-Scenes Tumblr:

Actually, I don’t think I’m going to leave this at a simple reblog, because it’s something that we’re going to get very much behind. By “we”, I mean “Made of Fail Productions”, and by “Made of Fail Productions” I mostly mean me ’cause everyone else does their own thing (but I’m pretty sure they’re going to also be behind this too).

We’ve talked about being geeks and nerds a lot on the flagship podcast, with more than a few episodes devoted to simply being a geek, from being around celebrities to a two-parter about self-esteem, and we even had an episode devoted to dating and romance.

Cat’s got a great concept with Single Female Nerd, and I’m going to go so far as to say that she’s got not only my endorsement with this video series, but Made of Fail Productions as a whole. Send in questions for her first video, guys, I know you have them.

Signed, Kevin. Because I can.

AVON Walk for Breast Cancer, redux

Last October, I made a post about my mother’s upcoming AVON Walk for Breast Cancer. I had asked for donations for her walk, and though the official rally for donations hadn’t yet started, she was overwhelmed by your positive responses.

January has rolled around, and her donation drive has kicked into full swing. I know many of you have already kicked in a few dollars to this cause, and she and I thank you for it. For those of you who may not have been around for it, or who wanted to donate but did not have the spare cash, I would like to offer the chance once again to help my mother on her five-year victory lap.

My mother is one of the strongest (if not the strongest) women I know. It was her influence that shaped the man I am today, and I am grateful – now, more than ever – that she has been in my life thus far, and will continue to be for quite some time.

I’m not sure what to say about her that hasn’t already been said at one point. I’ve gushed – both here and on the podcast – about how she was the one to get me into science fiction and fantasy, who took me to see Star Wars the first time in theaters back in 1997, and who made sure I had a healthy appreciation for Star Trek: The Next Generation when it was on, first-run. I’ve mentioned her near-fanatical love of baseball, and how she took me to my first Cubs game when I was very little, and makes sure to take me once or twice every summer. For someone who doesn’t think about baseball very much, these trips are still the best thing in the world, and I look forward to them every time because going to a ball game with my mother is a crapload of fun.

It really is the least I can do to put this link up once more, and I honestly do hope that you’ll consider kicking even a few dollars into this cause. I will also have the link up in the sidebar until the drive has closed, and look for myself and Tessa to be in the Volunteer Crew this walk, as well! I’ll have my video camera with me, and we’ll have some fun footage to put up after the Walk in June.

My mother’s Donation Page
How this money is spent.

One last note.

My mother has sent thank you notes to everyone who has donated thus far, except one person, who I recognize as a listener of Made of Fail. The e-mail that was provided on the note was invalid, so it bounced back without being delivered. Neither of us wanted to leave it at that, so to Wojciech Szafranek, who also left a very sweet note on the donation, my mother would like to say the following:

Thank you so much for your donation. It is very much appreciated and will help a great deal.
Laura

Updating the Galilea site

I’ve been updating the site for Star Trek: Galilea! Included in this passthrough is the addition of the Databank, which currently only has information on the U.S.S. Galilea but will expand to include information pages on the characters and setting.

Also in this update is the inclusion of Actor Pages for the cast, included on the About page (just over the copyright-observing disclaimers).

Episode Two coming Saturday, February 4th. Check out the new pages while you wait!

Donations

Dear listeners:

It saddens us to inform you that one of us has recently experienced a terrible tragedy. Brandi, a.k.a. [info]sirius20_81, recently gave birth to a baby girl named Leelu Shea. Tragically, Leelu died less than an hour after she was born due to complications in her heart.

We at Made Of Fail consider our listeners our extended family, and we try very hard to take care of our own. So we’re doing a donation drive to help Brandi and her family. We can’t turn back time and make everything better, but what we can do is try to make day-to-day things a little easier while she and her family take the time to grieve. We hope this will help take care of things like hospital and medical bills, funeral arrangements for Leelu, and any other care the family needs.

If you cannot donate money, please repost this wherever you can, and leave a comment expressing your sympathies and/or prayers. You are in our thoughts, Brandi, and we hope this helps even the tiniest bit.

An Important Announcement

Kevin here.

This Thanksgiving, I realize I have a lot to be thankful for. Wonderful friends. A lovely fiancée. Mass Effect 2 (You are a horrible, meddlesome girl, Tessa, and I love you so). I could make a list, but the absolute top would be Made of Fail.

This show was a turning point in my life. It was the moment when two friends decided to have some fun, and it snowballed into all of this. Made of Fail Productions, now about to add two – maybe three or four – radio dramas to its already impressive lineup of three podcasts, a crapload of blogs, and more friendships than I can do service to.

It is because of all of this that I am where I am today, at the heart and soul of this crazy steamrolling ball of insanity that I love so much. I have been taking more and more charge of the Production company as a whole, which is what this is turning out to be, and as such, there needs to be a bit of a change.

I would like to take this moment to announce that, as of January, I am stepping aside as host of our flagship podcast, Made of Fail, and handing the reins over to Dayna. In my opinion, she has – more than me – helped shape this one little show into what it is today, and I have full faith in her ability to take the lead and run it in whatever direction she chooses. She may have some formatting changes, or she might keep things exactly as they are, but the decision is now hers and hers alone.

Does this mean I am leaving? No. I will remain the Owner and Lead Producer of Made of Fail Productions. I will still seek out and start up new projects, take submissions from outside sources, and figure out what the hell this is all shaping up to be. I’m also not leaving our flagship podcast completely, either; I will be coming on as a guest-host now, on whatever episodes Dayna wishes me to take part in, or whichever episodes have the topics I want to discuss. I’m still writing for Deconstructing Moya, and I’m never going away.

This is not a decision I make lightly – it has been in the works for a few months, and it has been on my mind for over half a year now. The whole thing has just gotten so big, and it warms my heart that we’re so important to all of you. It is because of this that I wish to do you all the justice of continuing to have the shows, features, blogs, and other fun projects that you love so much. There will be more of the same, and more of the new, and much much more of Noel than we ever wanted to see in the first place.

Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Holidays, and Happy Failcraft Adventuring to all of you.

May we stay on the air forever.

AVON Walk for Breast Cancer

Followers, readers, listeners, and general friends, I owe a lot to my mother. I’ve mentioned multiple times that I am a second-generation geek; most of my sci-fi and fantasy fandoms were inherited from her. She was the one who took me to see Star Wars re-released in 1997, who introduced me to the wide variety of Star Trek on television, and who watched Farscape and Buffy with me first run. She attended my first ever stand-up comedy performance, helped me through some recent financial difficulties, and has been – for many years – my first advisor for anything that troubles me.

Five years ago, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. It had been caught early by her doctor, and through treatment and the support of her family and friends, she was able to force it very quickly into remission. Shortly afterwards, she registered for the AVON Walk for Breast Cancer, and walked in it with her friend and fellow cancer survivor Mandy. Every year since, they have registered for the crew, but next year they will be ready to walk again.

Five years, after all, is the mark that doctors pronounce you clean. While they do plan on making the walk every five years, this one is especially important to them. It’s a “victory lap” of sorts.

Tessa and I will be taking their places on the crew next year while they walk, but first they need to raise the money. To participate in the AVON Walk for Breast Cancer, she must raise $1,800. (How this money is spent.)

My mother has done so much for me over the years. There are few things I can do for her in return, but this is one of them: I will be donating to her walk in 2012, and I would like to add the support of Made of Fail Productions behind her.

Please consider donating for this worthwhile cause. Any amount, no matter how small, goes towards her $1,800 goal. Even a single dollar helps.

Thank you for your consideration.
